Assessment of Anxiety Disorders in Children and Adolescents

Abstract

Much has been done in the improvement for the evidence base of child assessment over the past several decades. In particular, the rise of evidence-based practice has seen the development and further refinement of a number of tools for the child anxiety practitioner and/or researcher’s assessment armamentarium. This chapter reviews a number of these evidence-based instruments, observations, and protocols following a brief review of the background surrounding child anxiety and anxiety disorders. We conclude with sections on conceptualizing anxiety in children and adolescents and additional recommendations and considerations.
