Handbook of Magnetic Hybrid Nanoalloys and their Nanocomposites

Abstract

Dyes are one of the most highly toxic and potentially carcinogenic pollutants, commonly released from textile industries. Numerous engineered materials and water treatment technologies have been developed in the aim to reduce their hazardous effects on human health and aquatic fauna and flora. Magnetic nanoadsorbents are emerging materials that have shown their effectiveness for dye removal due to their outstanding chemical and physical properties compared to conventional adsorbents. Their extremely small size, high surface area to volume ratio, easy surface functionalization, and excellent magnetic properties make them ideal candidates for water treatment. This chapter provides an overview of the current knowledge about iron-based magnetic nanomaterials used as adsorbents for treating dye-contaminated wastewater.
