Abstract
Pethia chakpiensis sp. nov. is described from the Chakpi River of the Chindwin-Irrawaddy drainage in Manipur, India. This new species is characterized in having an incomplete lateral line with 4–7 pored scales, 21–24 scales in lateral series; 15 preanal scales; intercalated scale row originates above and after the 5th scale of lateral line scale row; absence of humeral spot; caudal peduncle spot on the 17th and 18th lateral series scales and a longitudinal stripe along the flank.
