Abstract

This chapter outlines the management of the most frequently occurring diseases of the salivary glands in children including ranula, simple cysts, sialolithiasis, recurrent parotitis, hemangioma, pleomorphic adenoma, and malignant tumors. Clues are provided to assist in diagnosis; radiological investigations, including ultrasound, cross sectional imaging, and sialoendoscopy, are discussed. Trends toward interventional approaches rather than open surgeries are discussed. It is acknowledged that evidence for treatment is mostly based on single-center studies. The natural history of salivary gland tumors mandates lifelong surveillance in some cases.
