Zusammenfassung
Transduktion bedeutet die Übertragung von DNA von einer Zelle (dem Donor) in eine andere Zelle (den Rezipienten) durch Bakteriophagen. Sie wurde erstmals von Zinder und Lederberg für Salmonella und den Phagen P22 beschrieben; seitdem wurde jedoch gezeigt, daß sie bei vielen anderen Bakterien unter Beteiligung vieler Bakteriophagen verbreitet ist. Je nach dem beteiligten Virus kann die DNA der Donorzelle mit der viralen DNA im Kapsid des Bakteriophagen assoziiert sein. Es ist jedoch immer notwendig, daß die Donorzelle lysiert, Virionen mit Wirts-DNA (transduzierende Partikel) freigesetzt werden und ihre DNA in eine neue Zelle injizieren können. Eine Zelle, die durch Transduktion einen rekombinanten Phänotyp erlangt hat, wird als Transduktante bezeichnet.
