Nach Versuchen an der überlebenden Chorioallantoismembran und an Mäusen hemmen Inhibitoren der Succinodehydrase (Malonat oder Fluoracetat) durch Unterbrechung des Citronensäurecyclus die Vermehrung von PR 8-Virus, ebenso dl-Methoxinin and dl-Äthionin als Konkurrenzsubstrate der essentiellen Aminosäure 1-Methionin (Ackermann 1951 a–c).
