Evolution of Coherent Structures in a Lip Jet

Structure of Complex Turbulent Shear Flow

Abstract

Evolutions of coherent structures are examined in a lip jet and in a free jet. The presence of the lip extension (Fig. 1) has extensive effect on the development of the shear layers. Interaction between the free shear layer and the boundary layer or between the two free shear layers with different initial conditions is also studied. The induced flow of the coherent structures plays a dominant role in the interactions.
