Family Businesses in Tourism and Hospitality

Abstract

The chapter provide an overview of the potential opportunities for homestay family businesses in India. This study also highlighted some major challenges associated with the concept of homestay in India. Homestays have long been popular in tourist areas. It offers a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for travelers who are far from home. Homeowners typically run homestay businesses with vacant space or a room for rent. The homestay business in India offers many opportunities and challenges. This study is based on the author’s perspective and secondary data analysis of the current situation and the rising role of homestays. This research offers the authors’ viewpoint on the increased demand for homestays, supported by secondary data from multiple scholarly studies and reports from various government agencies. This research examines the significant opportunity such as environmental, infrastructural, tourism, social, economic, and challenges associated with homestays and the role of homestays in promoting tourism in India. Finally, the authors provide some recommendations that will aid in the country’s rise of the homestay concept. The contemporary extent of homestay research is limited since little past research has been published in the literature. This study is based on the author’s perception and secondary data. Upcoming research could form the basis of this research and lead to quantitative analysis. Researchers can fill out questionnaires from various homestay stakeholders to learn about the real problem and opportunities in this area.
