Soaking pit is a pit-type reheating furnace used for heating or heat preservation of steel ingots before blooming. The internal temperature of ingots is homogenized through thermal diffusion to be suitable for metal plastic processing. It is an equipment for heating ingots in blooming production. The furnace is rectangular in shape, and the steel ingots are placed vertically in the furnace. Several furnace pits usually form a group and share a set of control system. Gas fuel is mostly used for heating, and heavy oil can also be used. The soaking pit works periodically, so its temperature system and heating system change with time. The soaking pit is mainly used for soaking hot ingots after demolding and also for heating cold ingots. When steelmaking does not coordinate with rolling, the soaking pit can play a buffer role of ingot storage. With the full use of ingot latent heat, the unit heat consumption of the furnace is (0.21–0.29) × 106 kJ/T.
