Abstract
The management of cleft lip and palate patients requires a multidisciplinary approach. This chapter focuses on the role of orthodontist in association with other members of cleft team for the treatment of cleft lip and palate patient. Orthodontic treatment accelerates and redirects growth pattern of cleft palate patient to a normal direction thus improving facial esthetics and allowing better stability. Orthodontic treatment can be divided into four distinct developmental periods; infancy, deciduous dentition, mixed dentition, and permanent dentition. A timely and appropriate orthodontic treatment helps in improvement of subsequent surgeries of cleft lip and palate patient and also reduces multiple aggressive surgical procedures.
