Definition

Embossing is a forming process in which a high pressure is applied to a workpiece to change its surface. Depending on the shape, a distinction is made between hollow embossing and solid embossing (Raab 2013).

Hollow Embossing

In hollow embossing (Fig. 1), the thickness of the raw material is retained during forming. A depression on one side faces a bump on the other side of the workpiece (Litz 2013).
