#TimesUp is a social movement addressing workplace harassment and inequality.

The #TimesUp Movement

#TimesUp was created in response to the success of the #MeToo movement. The initial #MeToo movement, popularized through Twitter and Facebook, focused on empowerment and solidarity through the act of self-disclosure and highlighted the prevalence of sexual violence experienced by women and girls. #TimesUp has, however, sought to broaden the scope of sexual violence discussions (which have often focused on high-profile cases in the entertainment industry) to consider broader systemic and structural issues. As a consequence, there has been a move from “Hollywood gossip” style coverage of sexual violence within the entertainment industry to more considered and in-depth discussions of the extent to which sexual violence exists in other sectors.
