Abstract

At present, the major problem faced by oil and gas industries is the corrosion occurring in the transportation pipelines and various machinery. Generally, to safeguard the smooth and uninterrupted flow of oil and gas, the engineers and designers pay more attention to pipelines and fittings as they endure degradation due to corrosion. In this comprehensive review corrosion inhibitors for oil and gas industries are discussed. The first section highlights the classification of inhibitors and limitations of conventional inhibitors, followed by the next section focusing on the green inhibitors and their types. Considering various researches carried out by researchers for effective corrosion inhibitor regarding the reduction of corrosion in oil and gas pipelines by taking their studies as a reference we have briefly scrutinized them and presented the crunched information from it. The critical data analysis has been done section-wise for Organic, plant extract, and polymeric inhibitors in summaries and tabular format comprising of experimental methods, efficiencies, and various surface analyses. The present paper also incorporates comparative analysis for corrosion inhibitors used in two different experiments on the metallic surface from various research literature in this section. In the end challenges and future scopes are discussed for green inhibitors which are environmentally friendly. This paper inspires researchers and readers to focus on the development of various techniques and other green materials for effective inhibition on various surfaces where corrosion plays a vital role. Thus, all in all, this paper gives a brief idea about the current industrial scenario caused due to problems related to corrosion and its green remedies up to a certain extent.
