Abstract
Present investigation analyzes various water quality parameters after Fe2O3 assisted photocatalytic degradation of Congo Red dye in aqueous suspension under constant conditions. Significant changes were noted in alkalinity, turbidity, hardness, nitrate, calcium ion concentration, chloride ion concentration, magnesium ion concentration, COD, BOD, sulfate ion concentration, temperature and pH. At pH 5.4 most of the investigated parameters were found within the World Health Organization international standards of drinking water. Environmental risk assessment reveals that Fe2O3 assisted photocatalytic treatment of Congo Red waste disposal is satisfactory but needs to be accompanied with secondary treatment.
