Laser Device for Monitoring NPP Level-IV Emergencies

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

The detection of radioactive iodine in the reactor compartment of nuclear power plant is of great importance for their safety security. This investigation of the possibility of using intracavity signal attenuation spectroscopy and a laser device based on it shows that it allows detecting molecular radioactive iodine at the level 105 cm–3 (volumetric activity 0.3 Bq/cm3), i.e., NPP level-IV emergency operation at the earliest stage, affording a higher level of NPP operational safety.
