Osmotic resistance of white blood cells in different circulatory districts (renal, intestinal, hepatic and peripheral) in the rabbit

Summary

The authors report on the behavior of the osmotic resistance of white blood cells in the renal, hepatic, intestinal and peripheral districts of the rabbit.

In crossing the kidney and intestine the leukocytes undergo a decrease in osmotic resistance of the same entity as that which the leukocytes undergo in passing from arterial to venous blood in the cutaneous and muscular circulatory districts, and in the peripheral tissues in general; on the other hand, in crossing the liver, the fragilization undergone is much higher whereas the osmotic resistance of the white blood cells coming from the liver is always inferior to that of the white blood cells taken from any other vessel whatever, excluding the splenic vein.

On the basis of considerations contained in the introduction of the present paper, the liver seems to be therefore, one of the most active organs in leukocatheretic processes.

Zusammenfassung

Es wurden Untersuchungen über das Verhalten der osmotischen Leukozytenresistenz im renalen, hepatischen, intestinalen und peripheren Gefäßbereich des Kaninchens durchgeführt. Bei der Passage der Nieren und des Darmes erleiden die Leukozyten die gleichen Verminderung der osmotischen Resistenz wie bei der Passage vom arteriellen in den venösen Bereich der Haut- und Muskelzirkulation sowie ganz allgemein im Bereich der peripheren Gewebe. Die Abnahme der osmotischen Resistenz der weißen Blutkörperchen ist aber am größten bei der Leberpassage. Die Leukozyten des von der Leber kommenden Blutes zeigen mit Ausnahme der weißen Blutkörperchen des Milzvenenblutes gegenüber allen anderen Gefäßbezirken die stärkste Abnahme der osmotischen Leukozytenresistenz. Die Leber scheint daher eines der aktivsten Organe der leukozytenschwächenden Prozesse zu sein.
