Abstract
In a sample of 106 Σ + hyperons we have searched for the decaysσ +→ ne+ ν andσ +→nμ + ν, which would violate theΔQ=ΔS rule. NoΣ +→ne+ ν decay was found, whereas 313σ −→ne− ν decays were identified in the same film. With 90% confidence we obtain
Having found two candidates for the decayσ +→nμ + ν and 104Σ −→nμ − ν events we obtain for the muonic mode
The probability that theμ +-events are simulated byσ +→nπ + γ with subsequent undetectedπ +→μ + ν decay is less than 4%.

We wish to acknowledge the services of the CERN-Saclay bubble chamber crew in maintaining the fine operation conditions of the chamber. The ratio of stop**K −-mesons to background tracks depends very much on the manner in which the circulating PS-beam strikes to target. We wish to thank the PS crew for their excellent performance in this regard. We appreciate very much the efforts of our scanners who had to work under difficult conditions scanning photographs with a high number ofK-meson tracks. We are grateful to P.Lazeyras, P.Lexa, A.Minten, D.Plane, F.Wittgenstein and their collaborators for designing theK −-beam. Without its excellent performance this experiment would not have been possible. We are indebted to H.Schleich for his invaluable assistance during the exposure of the film. We wish to thank Prof. R.Armenteros, B. P.Gregory and Ch.Peyrou for their continuous support during the experiment. We are very grateful to S.Klein for his help in the Monte Carlo calculations for theΣ +→e+ background.
