Abstract
The adsorption of ammonia on an alumina supported copper catalyst and on unsupported copper powder was studied by diffuse reflectance FTIR spectroscopy in the temperature range 423–643 K. Bands in the region between 1950 and 2350 cm−1 were identified as being due to surface-bound azides. These species are suggested to be possible precursors in the copper nitride formation observed earlier.
