Abstract

A description of the reflection of UV-visible radiation in two-phase and three-phase systems is followed by a discussion of the special problems of reflection measurements in an electrochemical system. While former reviews have concentrated on the influence of the metallic phase (metal electroreflectance), here the influence of the electrolyte side of the double layer is also considered. Examples for the application of reflectance measurements to the adsorption of anions and organic adsorbates are given. Some applications of UV-visible reflectance measurements to quasi monomolecular oxide layers are discussed.
