Abstract
Die familiale Situation hat gravierende Auswirkungen auf das Erwerbsverhalten von Frauen und beeinflusst ebenfalls das der Männer. Insbesondere der Übergang zur Elternschaft wirkt sich negativ auf die Erwerbsbeteiligung, den Erwerbsumfang und die Einkommenshöhe von Frauen aus, wohingegen Männer infolge der Elternschaft tendenziell eher Einkommenszuwächse erfahren. Der vorliegende Beitrag diskutiert verschiedene Theorieansätze zum Einfluss familialer Übergänge auf das Erwerbsverhalten. Ferner wird erläutert, inwiefern der Effekt von Partnerschaft und Elternschaft auf das Erwerbsverhalten von individuellen Merkmalen, familienpolitischen Rahmenbedingungen sowie dem kulturellen Kontext abhängt. Schließlich beschreibt der Beitrag die vorhandenen empirischen Befunde zum Zusammenhang zwischen Familie und Erwerbstätigkeit.
