Abstract

How oft en have you attributed someone’s inability to complete satisfactorily a task or undertake a role to a lack of intelligence? ‘He’s a sausage short of a fry up’. ‘The lights are on but nobody’s there’. We could probably all list disparaging expressions that hint that someone might not have the cognitive ability to function well at a particular level.
