Abstract
Around 1900, sessions of Parliament lasted from February to July or August. Occasionally Parliament sat through the summer. In 1930 both Houses agreed that they should adjourn between July and October, and that the session should last from September or October to the September or October of the following year; this quickly evolved in practice to sessions running from November until the following November.
