Abstract
APIs are generally seen as a technology enabler to provide a service or business capability or enable easy application integration. However, that does not paint the complete picture of APIs. Organizations offer their core products and services via APIs to expand their ecosystems with partners. App developers are building apps using APIs that connect to enterprise back ends to provide new innovative experiences for consumers. As a result, APIs have become the core of the business, driving value and growth. APIs not only provide access to core enterprise products and act as the mode of service delivery but have been seen as the “product” itself. This is a significant paradigm shift that needs discipline and a cultural change within the organization to reap the real business benefits of APIs and have a competitive advantage.
