Respiratory toxicology relates to target organ toxicity, whereas inhalation toxicology refers to exposure mode. Exposure in inhalation toxicology is quantified as a concentration (compound mass per unit of air). Studies on inhalation toxicology offer a crucial foundation for assessing a material’s hazardous potential. Toxic substances breathed can cause lung illness and, if the chemical is translocated to other organs, disease in those organs as well. This is referred to as inhalation toxicology.
