Zusammenfassung

Selbstmord ist ein großes, vermeidbares Problem der öffentlichen Gesundheit, dem in Bangladesch immer noch zu wenig Priorität zugemessen wird. Bangladesch hat noch keine nationale Strategie zur Verhinderung von Selbstmorden entwickelt, um die Zahl der suizidbedingten Todesfälle zu reduzieren. Es mangelt an Studien, die sich auf familienbezogene Risikofaktoren für Selbstmord konzentrieren, und an solchen über die Folgen von Selbstmord für nahe Familienmitglieder in Bangladesch. Die häufigsten Faktoren, die zum Selbstmord führen, sind frühere Selbstmordversuche, körperliche und sexuelle Gewalt, psychische Erkrankungen, meist Depressionen, Einsamkeit, Persönlichkeitsstörungen, familiäre Disharmonie, eheliche Zwietracht, Beziehungskrisen, finanzielle Not, Drogenmissbrauch und Arbeitslosigkeit. Präventionsstrategien für Selbstmord unter Berücksichtigung der familiären Dynamik müssen erforscht werden. Unterstützende Strategien wie Krankenhausaufenthalte, Einbeziehung von Familienmitgliedern, Gatekeeper-Interventionen, Entwicklung von Aufklärungsprogrammen, Aufbau gesunder Kommunikation in der Familie und Nachsorge als Prävention wurden in früheren Studien vorgeschlagen. In diesem Kapitel fassen wir die relevante Literatur zu Familie und Selbstmord in Bangladesch zusammen und schlagen einen Weg zur Verhinderung von Selbstmord vor und zu zukünftigen Studien im Land.
