Abstract
The increased application of nanomaterials (NMs) in the agri-food system has been a matter of concern in recent years, which calls for the design of a strong regulatory framework for the advancement of nanotechnological intervention in agri-inputs while guaranteeing environmental safety. This is one of the initiatives to compile material on regulatory issues of the nano agri-input so that readers can determine their level of understanding at the moment. In addition to reviewing the current condition of regulatory frameworks in various nations with scientific improvement, this chapter outlines the most recent information on risk assessment strategies for NMs and highlights several important criteria for develo** a flawless framework. The data, statistics and related guidelines for various national and international organizations have evidently shown that the current nano-regulatory frameworks are digitally fragmented and yet to have proper clarity. European Union is one of them, which is taking the initiative in develo** nano-regulatory guidelines for agricultural field. This framework requires to be progressively refined to develop into a globally competitive nano-framework that ensures environmental health as well as societal acceptance. The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, recently designed a detailed guideline for evaluating of nano-inspired agri-input as well as food products in Indian Territory to support the existing national regulatory provisions. A conceptual regulatory framework including the pre-assessment phase, exposure evaluation as well as risk categorization has been proposed for regulating the wide uses of nanotechnology in agricultural inputs based on the detailed literature study.
