Abstract

Thermal distillation methods were conducted to study the effects on oil-based drilling mud treatment and oil recovery. Firstly, the waste oil-based drilling mud from shale gas drilling was pretreated by centrifuge, and then the treatment effects of atmospheric thermal distillation and vacuum thermal distillation were compared. The results show that the oil content in the waste oil-based drilling mud can be reduced to less than 0. 3% after vacuum distillation at 300 ℃ for 45 min, which meets the requirements of relevant standards. GC-MS analysis proved that the components of oil after vacuum thermal distillation were highly similar to those of diesel oil. Compared with the vacuum distillation method, there were fewer types of fractions after atmospheric distillation, and the distillate lacks hydrocarbon components above C26. Finally, the vacuum distillation oil was used to prepare oil-based drilling fluid. After aging in the roller heating furnace for 72 h, the drilling fluid showed good high temperature resistance, rheological property and filtration performance, which could meet the reuse requirements of the oil in the mud.
