Abstract
Infections of the central nervous system (CNS) can be easily confused with other diseases due to the lack of specificity of the initial symptoms and signs. It is also difficult to decide the infections caused by different pathogens based merely on clinical manifestations. Therefore, pathogenic diagnosis in laboratory tests has an irreplaceable role in the diagnosis and treatment of CNS infections. Laboratory pathogenic diagnostic methods for CNS infections mainly include cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) smear, CSF cell count and biochemical examination, CSF pathogen culture, and brain tissue biopsy.
