Abstract

In this chapter, I examine how LBC are vulnerable to drug abuse, supported by existing literature and the constructed conceptual framework. I present the socioeconomic root causes of drug abuse and what risks are posed by LBC’s prevalence of illegal drug abuse. Next, I summarise and analyse the relevant existing scholarly discourse to answer the following two questions: (1) how is illegal drug abuse problematised and (2) what are the major updated policy recommendations and evaluations on mitigating the root causes of drug abuse. To conclude, I emphasise how alleviating the exhibition of juvenile delinquency in the form of drug abuse is conducive to China’s mitigation of social inequality and promotion of sustainability.
