Abstract
In normal cultivation soil, it is observed that growth suppression occurs due to an increase in CO2 concentration before growth suppression due to a decrease in O2 concentration. Plant growth can be promoted by improving soil aeration and reducing root zone CO2 concentrations. To maintain a low CO2 concentration in the soil, the generation of CO2 by soil respiration should be suppressed, and the gas diffusion coefficient of the soil should be kept high. To promote crop production in soils with poor soil gaseous conditions and conserve ecosystems, it is possible to promote the growth and yield of useful plants for humans and suppress the growth of harmful plants in healthy ecosystems by controlling the root zone gas environment.
