Abstract
Metal-based polymeric compounds have emerged as promising agents in the field of anticancer therapeutics due to their unique properties and multifunctional capabilities. Herein, we provide an overview of the recent advancements and progress made in the development of metal-containing polymeric compounds as potential anticancer agents. The discussion encompasses the metal-based synthetic polymer drug conjugates, natural polymer drug conjugates, metal-based coordination polymers, metallodendrimers, and polymer conjugate with chitosan NPs. Emphasis is placed on the diverse range of 3d transition metals integrated into polymeric architectures to enhance their efficacy, selectivity, and biocompatibility. Furthermore, the key aspects regarding the mechanisms of action, including interactions with cellular components and pathways, are explored, shedding light on their potential as targeted therapies and overcoming drug resistance mechanisms.
