Abstract

The field of agriculture has been the principal source of income for many rural farmers in India, accounting for almost 53.6% of the population. With groundwater being the dominant form of irrigation, conventional methods used in coconut farm irrigation have had a lot of excess watering issues leading to improper management of available water resources. As a result, the proposed smart kit is designed to optimize and address these issues with additional insights into essential farmland parameters in the form of a web application that can be viewed remotely as well. Sensor data from the farmland is transmitted to the web application via the ThingSpeak server where the installed (Global System for Mobile) GSM module transmits the sensor or actuator data from the farmland to the ThingSpeak server. Results obtained in this work are recorded from a coconut farmland where all the parameters are recorded continuously. The added feature of intruder detection helps the farmer to easily maintain a wide range of coconut farms without fearing robbery. As a result, this proposed work helps farmers with better irrigation practices, efficient utilization of water resources, a single remote monitoring web application for all essential farm parameters and at the end all of this at a reasonable investment, with reduced manpower.
