Solar-Terrestrial Environmental Prediction

Abstract

Solar activity is suggested to impact the climate system through the influence of total solar irradiance (TSI), solar ultraviolet (UV), and galactic cosmic rays (GCRs). This chapter reviews the variability of solar forcing parameters and the response of climate/weather reported on various timescales.

The Precision Solar Photometric Telescope (PSPT) was maintained and operated at Mauna Loa Solar Observatory from 1998 to 2015 by the High Altitude Observatory/National Center for Atmospheric Research (HAO/NCAR). The data was processed at and is served to the community by the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado, Boulder. The PSPT effort was supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
