Abstract
The importance of lexis in written translation and how formal lexical errors could affect the quality and clarity of the Saudi English major students’ translation products was detailed in Chap. 4: Formal Lexical Error Analysis. The formal lexical errors identified were categorised into 17 subtypes and, based on a taxonomy developed specifically for this study, a quantitative analysis was implemented. The chapter provided a detailed explanation of the possible sources of the identified formal lexical errors. The findings indicated that inadequate knowledge of the L2 phonological, morphological, and orthographical aspects and the difference between the linguistic systems of the target and home languages accounted for the occurrence of these lexical errors.
