Abstract

Mass and momentum balance are the basic of fluid flow. Differential mass balance (continuity equation), and differential momentum balance or equation of motion are derived. Application of continuity and Navier–Stokes equations are described. Mechanism of momentum transport, dimensional analysis, friction factor, steady flow around a submerged solid sphere, fluid flow in circular pipe, fluid flow through a packed bed of solids, and force balance for packed bed of solids are also discussed in detail in this chapter.
