Definition
This study attempts to describe the phytoremediation as an integrative process comprised of three main mechanisms: (1) plants trigger the synergistic process of phytoremediation, (2) biotransformation of pollutants mediated by epiphytes, and (3) alleviation of abiotic stress in plants by endophytes. A deep understanding of these three mechanisms would enhance the phytoremediation processes for the sustainable remediation of industrial wastewater.
