Definition

The conventional additives used in the electrolyte bath are molecules with high toxicity risk to human beings and the environment. New efforts have been made to identify and classify natural extracts from plant-based sources that can act as bath additives, reducing the toxicity of the process.

Zinc as a Protective Coating

Carbon steels have good mechanical properties and an interesting cost-benefit ratio, but they are highly susceptible to corrosion degradation (Carvalho et al. 2021). One of the largest used corrosion protection techniques is metallic coatings. The electrodeposition of zinc ions on steel in a process known as electroplating is an example (Majuste et al. 2015).
