Metal Joining: Need, Approaches and Mechanisms

Abstract

This chapter presents the fundamental approaches used in manufacturing, namely casting, forming, welding and machining. Further, common methods of develo** joint and selection of suitable methods have been described. Need of joining, fundamental approaches of metal joining, role of heat and pressure in metal joining, mechanisms of metal joining and factors which need to be considered for selection of suitable joining processes have been described. Applications, advantages and limitations of welding as a fabrication technique have also been covered.
