Abstract
Embryological variations leading to DSD can be classified into problems relating to sex determination, testicular development or hormonal signalling in the placenta, hypothalamic axis or in defects in the testicular hormones themselves. Atypical development secondary to hormonal anomalies needs to be separated from primary dysmorphogenesis of the genitalia or perineum.
