Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve is a cross-border natural heritage site that was first established by Ivory Coast and was then extended following Guinea’s declaration. It is located in the Mount Nimba area, where the borders between Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea and Liberia meet. It has a core protection area of 180 km2. Mount Nimba rises above the surrounding savannah along the borders of the three countries. Its slopes are covered by dense forest at the foot of grassy mountain pastures. They host especially rich flora and fauna with endemic species such as the viviparous toad and chimpanzees that use stones as tools.
