Abstract
North-East India is known for the diversified range of medicinal plants which may extensively be used in the traditional medicinal practices against various ailments. Isolation of plant-derived bioactive compounds from these medicinal plants was well recognized in the past decades and some of them have been approved as medicines against diseases including cancer. It is expected that the number of new cancer cases is to soar by 70% in the next 20 years. Thus, there is a need to seek the new anticancer drugs, which have no side effects. In this regard complementary alternate medicines (CAMs) derived from plants could be a promising source against the cancer and related diseases. The aim of the present chapter is to focus on the potentiality of major plant-derived compounds from diversified medicinal plants of North-East India for their anticancer and chemopreventive activity and their mode of action. Moreover, their large-scale production, uses of their structural analogs, and molecular docking studies of some of the selected plant-derived compounds are also discussed.
