It could very well be said that the centrality of Christianity is the aspect of Love flowing into the loving service of the neighbor. Here the nuances of the love commandment of Jesus, as given to his disciples, are described. In the Gospel of St. John, one finds the insistence of Jesus on observing this one commandment which he gave to his disciples on the eve of his passion and death. St. John depicts this as “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (Jn 13:34). Discovering the meaning of this “new Commandment,” probably, one could fathom this puzzle proposed by Jesus as given in the synoptic Gospels; and thus, realize the challenge of following Jesus.
