Abstract
The terminology of T.E. is problematic. The terms Controlling Elements, Mobile DNA and Mobile Genetic Elements, all describe DNA sequences that can change location in the sequence of genomic DNA or even in plasmids. Moreover, even elements that have lost the capability to change location but apparently had it in the past are included in these terms. The latter elements, which lost transposition capability were nicknamed, in the Introduction of this book, as “skeletons”. Because of limitation in the capacity of this book, I shall exclude viruses, such as retroviruses and the bacteriophage Mu, from our handling of T.E.
