Abstract

Benzene is a stable and highly flammable, colorless liquid with a characteristic aromatic odor. It is produced in large quantities (14.8 million tonnes per year) by the chemical industry. Benzene is also a naturally occurring chemical found in crude petroleum at levels of up to 4g/l.
