Samenvatting

Veel van de klachten over bemoeilijkte mictie kunnen in de huisartsenpraktijk worden behandeld door het verrichten van een goede anamnese en lichamelijk onderzoek. Een IPSS-vragenlijst en een mictiedagboek zijn hierbij ondersteunend. Belangrijk is een goede uitleg aan de patiënt, met nadruk op het goedaardige, veelal wisselende beloop en de beperkte rol van medicatie bij de aanpak van het probleem. Een aparte rol in de benadering van de patiënt met LUTS speelt de PSA-bepaling. Deze eenvoudig aan te vragen en uit te voeren bepaling speelt vaak een rol in het gesprek over mictieklachten. Zolang er geen eensluidend advies is over screening op prostaatkanker, vergt het de juiste counselingsvaardigheden van huisarts en uroloog om samen met de patiënt tot een goede beslissing te komen.
