Abstract

The evolution of regional anesthesia techniques over the years has witnessed the alternation of a whole series of extremely heterogeneous approaches to the nerve structures. The aim of these procedures was to reconstruct, by means of cutaneous landmarks, the course of the underlying nerves which were then located with various systems, ranging from the eliciting of paresthesias to the more recent electrical nerve stimulation and ultrasound methods, so as to be able to perform the anesthetic block with a needle located close to the target.
