Abstract

The effect of sample roughness and thermal processing conditions on the joined interfaces of MPMG-processed Y123 superconductors, including large amounts of Y211 phase and Ag, have been investigated. The joined samples were examined by magneto-optical observation and resistivity measurement across the interface. For a good joining, it was effective in eliminating voids and employing a slow cooling after high temperature joining to prevent second phase contamination. A sample optimized in our experimental conditions showed lower resistivity across the interface at normal state before the superconducting transition. Magneto-optical observation with the applied magnetic field of 255 Oe showed no week link at the joined interface of this sample.
