Synthesis of Melt Grown Y2Ba4Cu7O15-δ Bulk Superconductor Using High Oxygen Pressure Techniques

Abstract

The melt-grown bulk Y247 superconductor was successfully prepared by MMTG process under high oxygen pressure. We could obtain large 247 grains with the dispersed 211 inclusions. The maximum grain size was found to be about 4 mm x 5 mm. The value of superconducting transition (T c ) for the as-grown sample, being determined from the onset of transition in Meissner signals, was about 50 K. The post annealing was added at 990°C for 3 days under 8 atm pure oxygen pressure. The value of T c for this sample raised up to 80 K. It turned out that the pinning force due to the excess 211-phase in the 247-matrix was apparently fairly weak from the results of the measurement of magnetic hysteresis loops.
