Abstract
Coronary artery disease can now be treated with drugs or with surgery. In some patients with advanced disease, low cardiac output may develop after coronary bypass graft surgery (CABG). Appropriate measures are often required to ensure adequate perfusion of vital organs in such patients. Of the invasive measures for support of low cardiac output, intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) is most widely used. In common practice, fluoroscopy or radiography is used for guiding the insertion of the IABP catheter to the correct position. However, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) can also be used and is more convenient.
