Abstract
Rudolf Otto Lipschitz nait à Königsberg en 1832. Il s’oriente très tôt vers les mathématiques d’abord à l’Université de Königsberg, puis de Berlin où il prépare une thèse sous la supervision de Dirichlet. Après avoir soutenu sa thèse en 1853, il enseigne d’abord dans les lycées de Königsberg et Elbing, avant d’obtenir en 1857, une position de Privat-Dozent à l’Université de Berlin, en 1862, de professeur à l’Université de Breslau et en 1864, de professeur à l’Université de Bonn où il effectuera le reste de sa carrière. Il décède en 1903 à Bonn.
